The Ted Cruz Rope-a-Dope

"In competitive situations other than boxing, rope-a-dope is used to describe strategies in which one party purposely puts itself in what appears to be a losing position, attempting thereby to become the eventual victor."

When Ted Cruz took to the Senate floor to plea for defunding Obamacare he knew the strategy was likely to fail, but it was the only strategy available to a party that only controlled 1/3rd of the government.  He and fellow conservatives made the case for defunding and tried to settle for a simple delay.

All the while Democrats kept insisting on no delay, they even went so far as to shut down the federal government over it.  The establishment class members of his own party attacked Cruz's tactics.  They said if you can't win the fight it shouldn't even be fought.  Earlier this week Thomas Sowell jumped on the bandwagon saying Cruz and the tea party had nothing to gain.

But, as we have seen right before our eyes, that simply is not true.  Conservative tea party Republicans were attacked as extremists, terrorists, hostage takers and worse for asking for a delay in the individual mandate.  Now over 5 million people have lost their insurance plan and another 115 million more will based on projections that include the employer mandate going into effect next year.

Democrats in both houses of Congress are now following Cruz's lead and asking for a delay.  Pres. Clinton is criticizing Obama for not living up to his promises.  Other far left media outlets have even declared Obama a deliberate liar over the issue of whether people can keep their plan if they like it.

Cruz was right. Tea Party/Conservative Republicans were right. It is time the establishment admit that Cruz's tactics have proven to be extremely beneficial to the GOP as those tactics made it crystal clear to all Americans that Curz and his fellow tea party conservatives have been the only people to consistently stand up for America's working poor and middle class families when it comes to the train wreck that is Obamacare.
