NEA-Shawnee Mission Endorses Candidate Arrested for Giving Alcohol to Minors

The Shawnee Mission division of the NEA, the nation's largest teachers union, has endorsed Jason Leib in the Kansas House District 17 race.

Making the announcement, Jean Goodman, NEA-SM member, said, “We encourage all voters in House District 17 who value strong Public schools in their communities to support Mr. Leib in the August 7th Republican Primary.”

It is unclear whether the NEA-SM was aware of Jason Leib's prior criminal record at the time the endorsement was made.  Leib has been arrested for giving alcohol to a minor and also has a conviction for DUI, driving under the influence.  Leib continues to openly promote his drinking habit on various social networking sites.

When contacted about their endorsement in light of Leib's record, NEA-SM Board of Directors member Barb Casey had no comment.  Executive Board President Nancy Fritz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
