Obama Wins: All Hail the Messiah

We can now safely call the presidential election for Barack Obama.

Robert L Borosage at the Huffingtonpost has these words of wisdom for Americans who voted for Obama:

Forget about the routine chattering class babble about how America is a "center right" nation and Obama must "govern from the center." That claim was misleading even before this election. Americans are voting for a northern, liberal, Ivy League educated, African American, former college professor to be president... Conservative nation? Govern from the center? In reality, the center has moved.

It is monarchical and aristocratical government only that requires ignorance for its support.

We thank Townhall.com and the rest of the ultra-right for pushing our candidate to the brink of resistance. Because of dissenters like you, he is ready to lead.

From Hugh Hewitt tonight:

It is an extraordinary thing, an achievement that will be recognized a hundred years hence, that Barack Obama has won the White House. Even those of us who opposed him, and who will no doubt be opposed to many of his policy objectives over the next four years, must pause and say congratulations on an improbable, amazing rise.Every American ought to pray for wisdom and judgment for President-elect Obama, for his safety and the safety of his country, and for the continued prosperity and greatness of America.

"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men" - Abraham Lincoln.

I will always remember the price of a passive media during the Bush Administration.

I look forward to your dissent, Hugh Hewitt. So that the pendulum never swings too far. You are now the check on power.

For the past 10 years I kept seeing example after large example of how the United States has changed from a country of hard-working, freedom-loving, and God-fearing nation to that of it's current day Sodom & Gomorrah. The majority are more concerned with their own wallets and "approval" to be immoral, special-interest groups, & greed for power.

Of the entire campaign, one phrase was heard that foreshadowed the things to come:

"Not God bless America, GOD DAMN America!"

Rev. Wright, I think you got your wish.

For all those who voted for Obama and the ultra-liberal machine, I hope you realize there is nothing CENTER about the group you just voted for. There is nothing stopping them, no balance or check, no barrier or speed bump to stop them from putting any kind of legislation through.

There will be about 10-15% who will love every bit of new laws coming. They knew what to expect.

The rest of those who voted Dem will stand in confusion wondering how it happened in the first place...

Those who knew better and voted against a false messiah, will be ready to offer our condolences with a hearty, "I told you so".

i'm actually glad that the dems are in full control. the mess they created in the housing market will now be ALL THEIRS. fix it? haha yeah right.

the christmas shopping season (wait - i guess i have to use the new obama-approved wording of holiday shopping season) will suck so bad. many retailers will go into the red. some will go out of business and start the upward climb of unemployment just about the time obama has his easter egg hunt on the white house lawn. wait - there won't be an easter either.

oh yeah - let's not forget the dems will also get legislation through asap about changing the bankruptcy laws back to 'you can walk away from it all and not pay' system. this ought to really throw some gasoline into the mortgage crisis.

nope. i'm glad the dems got it all. they can't continue to blame bush for all their troubles now. what they can't fix in the next four years will be their own fault and nobody else to blame.

Obama is a socialist? LOL, the great "fair and balanced" right wing media strikes again...

I don't blame you for being upset, your guy lost, but please, for the love of God, figure out what a socialist really is. Sure Obama's for higher taxes on the wealthy, but what industries is he proposing nationalization of?

The election of Obama is not the end of the world. We've still got democracy despite Bush's best efforts, so in 4 years you can vote him out. And look at it this way, there's no possible way Obama can be a worse president than George Bush.

Anonymous said...

"what industries is he proposing nationalization of?"

Healthcare. He's already voted for nationalizing a good portion of the banking industry.

There is quite a bit of difference between progressive taxing of the wealthy to pay for infrastructure, defense, etc. and progressive taxation to cut a check to the people who don't pay federal taxes.

Maybe it is you who should learn what socialism means.

Ah, the Limbaugh talking points. Obama is no more a socialist than Bush is a fascist, despite what some people would have you believe.

The banking industry bailout, which I'm assuming is what you're referring to is a bi-partisan project, so its very dubious to pin that as Obama's socialist project.

National health care needs to be expanded, whether you like it or not. That is socialist of him, I'll give you that.

As for the check to people who don't pay taxes, one simple explanation: right wing propaganda. Limbaugh, Hannity and Coulter are full of shit (as are Michael Moore and Keith Olberman). Don't believe everything you hear on AM radio.

And for the record:
Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)

   /ˈsoʊʃəˌlɪzəm/ Pronunciation [soh-shuh-liz-uhm]
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

When Obama advocates taking the oil companies, steel manufacturers or auto plants away from their owners, then your argument might hold water. until then you're just blowing hot air.

For further reference please consult any work by Karl Marx, Pierre Leroux or Robert Owen for actual information on socialism.

From Wikipedia:
"Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly"

From Obama:
"spread the wealth"

Any questions?

“Everybody knows - but no one wants to say - that the Democratic Party has become the party of special interest bigots and racial dividers. From Lenin:

On one-world-order:
"The aim of socialism is not only to abolish the present division of mankind into small states and all-national isolation, not only to bring the nations closer to each other, but also to merge them."

On gun control:
"One of the basic conditions for the victory of socialism is the arming of the workers (Communist) and the disarming of the bourgeoisie (the middle class)."

Comrade, we have studied.

The bailout was only bi-partisan in as much as them democrats lacked the courage to pass it on theis own and instead opted trade billions in pork for Republican votes at the eleventh hour.

Lenin on indoctrination of children in schools:
"Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted."

"Give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever."

Lenin on the press:
"The press should be not only a collective propagandist and a collective agitator, but also a collective organizer of the masses."

"When one makes a Revolution, one cannot mark time; one must always go forward - or go back. He who now talks about the "freedom of the press" goes backward, and halts our headlong course towards Socialism."

On the middle class:
"The way to crush the bourgeoisie (the middle class) is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation."

Lenin on politicians:
"There are no morals in politics; there is only expedience. A scoundrel may be of use to us just because he is a scoundrel."

Socialism comes... wish it away as you may, but it comes...

Bolshevikism is an extreme form of socialism. German socialism, for example, is quite a bit different from how things were in the USSR.

Comparing Obama to Lenin is a bit severe, don't ya think?

Never before in American history has a leader who blatantly talked of "spread[ing] the wealth", who had a racist, anti-American preacher, who had terrorist/criminal associations, who spoke ill of Israel & Jerusalem...

...ever been elected as President. Twenty years ago he would have been laughed off stage. Fifty years ago he would have investigated by the FBI. One hundred years ago he would have likely been run out of town.

I am still wondering why the masses overlooked such red flags (pun intended) about a candidate? History has taught us that when unknowns rapidly rise to power and the little that is known about their pasts have such huge red marks, it's NOT GOOD. Think Hitler, Stalin, Hussein, Hu...

Brian and Matt,

When Barack wrote in dreams of my father that he chose his friends carefully, like the marxist prefossors, do you not take that to mean he embraces socialist ideology?

Have you actually read either of his books? I have.

Why don't you and then get back to me.

Brian Rules the World said...

Okay, it's clear you don't value civil debate by the condescending tone you've taken. I was just pointing out that the comparison of Obama to Lenin is quite severe, much like the comparision of W to Hitler, both are just partisan name-calling.

No, I haven't read Obama's books, but I'm basing my beliefs off of what I have seen and heard from him, and what I know from studying and living in socialist countries.

But whatever dude, you've clearly got your point of view and no one could convince you otherwise.

Anon, although this site has compared the fanatism of Obama's supporters and the Obama campaigns use of similar symbolism to that of the Nazi party, we certainly would not go so far as to compare Obama himself to the likes of who you listed without just cause.

The fact is, despite Obama's ideology, he is our president. You have to trust that he will have the wisdom to lead from a more centrist position unless he does otherwise.

My personal Quote Engine popped this up today and it really seems apropos

Perhaps America will one day go fascist democratically, by popular vote.
- William L. Shirer (1904-93), US journalist.

Billy boy, today is the day.

I did a little research to make sure I fully understand the meaning of terms like fascist and socialist. Here’s what I found:

1) A political regime based on strong centralized government, suppressing through violence any criticism or opposition of the regime, and exalting nation, state, or religion above the individual.
2) A system of strong autocracy or oligarchy usually to the extent of bending and breaking the law, race-baiting, and advocating and supporting violence against largely unarmed populations

1) Any of various political philosophies that support social and economic equality, collective decision-making, and public control of productive capital and natural resources, as advocated by socialists.
2) The socialist political philosophies as a group, including Marxism, libertarian socialism, democratic socialism, and social democracy.
3) (Leninism) The intermediate phase of social development between capitalism and full communism. This is a strategy whereby the State has control of all key resource-producing industries and manages most aspects of the market, in contrast to laissez faire capitalism.
4) (Classical Marxism) The international communist society where classes and the state no longer exist.

Fascism is a bit extreme for either Bush or Obama but, Obama has already demonstrated a penchant for suppressing criticism and opposition and the intent to create largely unarmed populations. As for socialist, being the intermediate phase between capitalism and communism seems to be right on. But, the best definition of what we might expect of the president elect is

democratic socialism
1) A radical left-wing political philosophy that aims to achieve by democratic means a fully socialist society i.e. where private ownership has been displaced in predominance by collective or public ownership.
2) Any form of socialism based on democratic principles and institutions.
