Democrats Laying the Foundations for Tyranny

Many Democrats find themselves outraged today at their party's embrace of the FISA bill in the House and now Senate. MSNBC's Keith Olbermann said, "I'm betting that [President Bush's] wildest dreams did not include the prospect that Congress -- a Democratic-led Congress -- would help him cover up his crimes." But, that is exactly what happened when the Senate passed FISA yesterday by a vote of 69 to 28.

Even Senator (and likely president) Barrack Obama reversed his position on the FISA bill calling it's current iteration a 'compromise'.

So why are so many Democrats now embracing unrestricted access by the federal government to eavesdrop on your phone calls, emails, and Internet traffic? Is it because Democrats suddenly have a new found respect for President Bush and his tactics to fight the "war on terror" or is something else the cause of their abrupt change of heart?

As we previously mentioned and you likely are fully aware, there is every indication that Senator Barrack Obama will sail through November's election to become the next President of the United States of America. Democrats already control both the House of Representatives and the Senate. In addition, they are fully expected to improve their control of both and even gain a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. So again we ask, why would the Democrats suddenly have a change of heart over FISA? Why would Democrat Senator Dodd's housing bailout bill have provisions to require credit card companies and online payment processors to report everything you buy to the federal government?

We've considered the vast amounts of money AT&T and Verizon pumped into the coffers of Democrats who originally proposed FISA. We've looked at the obvious improprieties in regards to Sen. Dodd and other Democrats taking sweetheart loans from the very lenders that wrote his housing bill, but now we aren't so sure that those issue constitute the full extent of the reasoning behind their flip-flop.

Lord John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton wrote, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." In the past eight years, we saw conservatives gain control of the presidency, followed by control of the House and Senate and what happened was an assault to the very principles that got those conservatives elected. Federal spending more than doubled, traditionally non-interventionist foreign policies were swept aside for "spreading democracy" at the end of a gun, and the government's intrusions into our private lives grew to an all-time high with programs like warrantless wiretaps, CALEA regulation expansion, and more.

Now that the Democrats are sure that they will gain control of the federal government, they are taking the steps now to ensure their ability to not only take advantage of the Bush administration's constitutional violations, but create some new ones of their own to exploit.

So there you have it. When Obama is elected and the Democrats increase their federal power the American citizenry can look forward to continued warrantless wire tapping, email and Internet traffic snooping, the IRS building databases of the products and services they purchase, and who knows what other tyrannical powers they can think up.

A government of, by, and for the people, indeed.

Big Brother is here but is now going public. Scary isn't it? And there has been nary a peep from the people both right and left, Democrat and Conservative about this whole government spying on the people crap.

The vast majority of Americans are just too lazy to stand up to the government anymore.
