More Bad News for Sprint

Alltel, the nation's fifth largest wireless carrier, has announced they will not be using WiMax technology in their next gen wireless network.

This is bad news for Sprint. The decision by Alltel eliminates the only remaining major wireless carrier as a potential peer for Sprint's upcoming WiMax network. This means that for Sprint to stay competitive they will have to build an entire nationwide next gen wireless network by themselves.

Sprint is expected to use dual mode phones in an effort to bridge the gaps between their WiMax and CDMA networks.
